UV-C low pressure systems

Low-pressure UV-C systems are specialised devices that use UV-C light in the low pressure range to disinfect water, air or surfaces. They work with low-pressure mercury vapour lamps that generate UV-C light at a wavelength of 254 nm - a wavelength that is particularly effective at inactivating microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses and fungi. Here are some key features and benefits of low-pressure UV-C systems:

Low-pressure UV-C lamps require less energy than medium-pressure UV lamps. They work at a relatively low operating temperature and have a lower energy consumption compared to high-pressure systems, which makes them particularly economical.

The wavelength of 254 nm is particularly effective in damaging the DNA and RNA of microorganisms so that they can no longer multiply. Low-pressure UV-C systems achieve a high disinfection performance with a short exposure time and are therefore popular in applications where fast and safe inactivation is required.

With up to 18,000 hours, low-pressure UV-C lamps have a long service life of almost 2 years. This means low maintenance requirements and a long service life, which has a positive effect on operating costs.

As low-pressure UV-C systems generate a wavelength of exactly 254 nm and ozone is only produced at shorter wavelengths (below 200 nm), low-pressure UV-C systems do not normally produce ozone, which is beneficial for air quality and reduces the cost of air purification measures.

  • Water treatmentLow-pressure UV-C systems are used to inactivate pathogens, particularly in drinking and process water systems.
  • Air sterilisationThey are also used in air disinfection, e.g. in ventilation systems in hospitals, laboratories or public buildings, to reduce airborne pathogens.
  • Surface disinfectionThey are suitable for disinfecting surfaces in production facilities, e.g. in the food industry.

Low-pressure UV-C systems

Overall, low-pressure UV-C systems are an efficient, environmentally friendly and economical solution for disinfection in many areas.
