Water supply and steam boiler operation on ships
Efficient water treatment on board
There are two main applications on the paddle steamers "MS Zürichsee" and "MS Rapperswil": For the kitchen and toilets, lake water is treated using a filter system and UV-C disinfection - with a capacity of 3,000 litres per hour, which is also sufficient for larger events.
For the steam drive, the lake water is demineralised using reverse osmosis. The water is taken from the lake, pre-filtered and then prepared for stable operation.
Comprehensive solutions for water suppliers
The new drinking water treatment system saves the crew valuable time, as the tanks no longer need to be filled in harbour. In addition, the water quality is continuously monitored and meets the highest drinking water standards. The direct treatment from the lake also means that a larger quantity of water is available.
Demineralisation prevents deposits in the steam system, which previously required regular cooling, cleaning and reheating. Now the system remains at operating temperature throughout the season. This not only saves the ship diesel - around a third of the consumption - but also amortises the investment after just one season. A real win for the environment and efficiency!
